So I was given this random recording of the B-Terns from B94.5FM in State College of them singing the 12 days of Xmas. But not like the original. They relate all the days to what they go through with their lead DJ, PJ Mullen. I sample the rough random mix and just made whatever came to me. Pretty fun song. New Michael Jackson Album Review

There are many people that question whether or not Michael Jackson is actually singing the songs on the album. Let me make this clear – This is MJ. There is no doubt about that. It may not be as refined and as precise as we have all come to love but this is the King of POP.

If you are a Michael Jackson purist then you will probably listen and be turned away and at first I was slightly. There are certain songs you can definitely tell they had to do a bit of work to get the most out of what were probably test/scratch vocals.

For those that know MJ’s collection like the back of their hand you will realize that some of these songs are actually pretty old. (I Like) the way you love me, Best Of Joy, Much Too Soon and Behind the Mask all feel like they were written during the Quincy Jones era. They have just been updated a bit for its 2010 release. From the distinct bass lines, sometimes quirky synth sounds and has the classic melodies it has the 1980’s written all over it.

(I Can’t Make It) Another Day featuring Lenny Kravitz sounds like a lost track written during the Dangerous or History era in the mid 90’s.
The old-school influences aren’t a problem though. To me this is a reminder of just how timeless MJ’s music is.

I have listened to this album only twice. The first time the energy felt a little lackluster and phoned in. You can just tell this is pieced together. But the second time through I couldn’t help but wanna get up and dance. The ballads possess more character and more depth than expected. Keep your Head up and Hold My Hand will fulfill the “heal the world” component that every MJ album has. The Neo-inspired Monster, while being slightly over produced, is definitely the MJ song I was waiting for. This song will be on repeat. If this isn’t the next single Sony is probably doing even more crack than I thought. Breaking News feels more at home on the album than it did as a random out-of-place release by Sony online. Hollywood Tonight will suck you in too even if it does feel a little awkward following the leading track Hold my Hand featuring Akon. But like many songs off the album you won’t be able to stop yourself from singing along to it – its catchy.

My favorite song on the album is definitely Behind the Mask. Any MJ fan should appreciate this song. It probably was written for the Bad album but when hear MJ hit those “hee hee’s” or his random inflections you will realize what you never realized you have been missing. Simply awesome.

This album is definitely not an Album that MJ would have released. And there are times you can tell that they had to do some studio magic to make these songs ready for release. If you can accept that and if you can think of this as a compilation of updated tracks from throughout his career you will enjoy this album. He might not be alive to put his OK on the release of this album but you can be certain that he lives on through his music on every track. Long live the king of pop.

But its fun though. It feels good to know there are fans out there who appreciate the music we do. When an artist says “I do it for my fans” they are half speaking the truth. They do it for themselves but it really doesn’t have its complete meaning until they have a fan or two that lets them know that their music speaks to them. Well maybe I’m speaking about me… I appreciate every fan, every listen someone gives to an Audio Imagery song. I appreciate all the things people have done to help further this music. So I couldn’t help myself. I did a remix over the original beat of Breaking News but I had to add my own flavor to it. This accapella is more true to the sound of MJ so I dig it a TON more. I just stumbled onto it – I think Sony is trying to prove that its MJ. There are some doubters. There is NO way you can listen to this song and say its anyone but MJ.

Anyway, I had ANTI come over to work on this track and he added his flavor to it – I appreciate it. Anyway enough talk. So I have been waiting, fiending, drooling for some new Michael Jackson songs – and finally just as of November 8th they released the first single off the album. I think I just crapped my self – hold on let me check…. Yup.

Michael Jackson has always been my favorite musician. I aspire to be an entertainer like he was (an impossible feat) but something I strive for. This man could sing a note and make a stadium pass out. Crazy. So as soon as they announced that they were going to release the song about a week or two ago I have been preparing to pump out a remix. I didn’t want to change the music cause I didn’t want to mess with the essence of MJ but I had to spit a verse at least! So here is the Breaking News Remix with Audio Imagery.
